The Digital Transformation of the Recruitment Process

I recently participated in a Webinar on the Digital Transformation process that our Recruiting department and all Recruiting departments have undergone around the world. We discussed how companies have had to implement changes, in order to remain competitive and find the best talent - during the pandemic.
To give you an idea, our pre-pandemic processes were 100% face-to-face.
We would receive requests for resources, we would begin our candidate-search, we would make the respective publications on diverse platforms and we filtered candidates. The applicants went through a series of face-to-face interviews with our Managers and/or with clients. Once the candidate was selected, we would have the him/her come to the office to receive the job offer and sign-off on it. Finally, the new employee would perform his tasks and duties from the client's offices or at Novacomp’s offices.
Due to the health crisis that we are currently living, due to COVID-19, companies have had to act quickly and re-adapt their processes, including Recruitment, so that everything is done remotely, efficiently and effectively, for the safety of all.
Novacomp was not the exception. We reinvented our processes.
Our focus is to continue providing quality service to all of our clients. But we also seek to provide stability and safety procedures for all of our employees, as well as for future ones. Our goal is that every candidate that goes through Novacomp’s recruitment process, has a pleasant, agile and efficient experience.
Our processes became virtual. The application of technical and psychometric tests are now carried out through an online platform. All interviews (both internal and with clients) are conducted virtually, via video conference using different platforms, such as: Microsoft Teams, Zoom, Skype, Google Meet. The job offer was 100% digitized, so that the candidate does not have to come into our offices. And finally, the clients (at least for now) switched to 100% remote (WFH) mode. We as a company, responded with the necessary speed, we readapted quickly, so that each candidate or employee could have the necessary tools to do their job and do it well.
The well-being of all our employees, and their families is our priority. That is why we follow Government guidelines and recommendations established during times of global crisis. As the world continues to change and evolve, new technologies play an important role in how we connect and communicate. We must all evolve and adapt to the "new normal".
Remember to ask the interviewer which platform they use, download the app if you don't already have it installed, and make sure your internet connection is stable. Be sure to test and adjust the sound, microphone, and camera prior to the interview.
No need for a luxurious space, as long as its tidy and quiet, with good lighting. This in case you are asked to turn the camera on. Your attire should be aligned to the type of company and role you are applying to. Remember that first impressions are still vital, so the recommendation is to dress professionally and make a great first impression.
The interviewer shouldn’t have to wait for you to connect to the interview. Enter at least 5 minutes prior to the agreed time, this will show interest and respect.
As you would for a face-to-face interview, research the position and the company. In such a way that when you have your opportunity, you can ask the necessary questions regarding the role. Or if the interviewer asks, you can answer with certainty. Interviewers can easily see which candidates come prepared and which candidates do not.
Identify your own abilities and skills to maximize them.
If an unexpected event should occur, such as a sudden loud noise, an interruption of sorts, or someone entering the room, apologize. In this day in age, these things tend to be more common and people tend to be more flexible. We understand that most people are working from home... and it is part of adapting to new normal.
Nowadays, recruitment processes are not only handled via phone calls or video conferencing. Interviews are coordinated by email or WhatsApp, so it is important to inform the interviewer from the get-go, the easiest and most effective way to communicate with you.
Also remember - if you receive notification of an interview, confirm the interview.
As discussed, job competitiveness in this day in age is high. Candidates are preparing for job interviews in order to stand out and land the job.
In 2019 we hired a total of 129 new professionals.
Projections for this year are fairly similar. Thus far, we have hired 78 professionals, and we currently have more than 30 open positions that may be of interest to you.
